I love Greece with it's friendly people. Greece is beautiful and the sun always shines. Greece is the perfect country for a cheap vacation.

Each summer thousands of young people visit Greece on a low budget. They come from all over the world.
I have made friends there years ago from Ireland, England, Norway, The USA, New Sealand and Australia.
Island Hopping is a cheap way to have a fun vacation and make new friends.

Where will you go on your vacation? The Cyclades is an island group that I have been to many times.

Plenty possibilities there. I will just name a few:
Santorini - Paros - Naxos - Sifnos - Lesbos - Mikonos.
I have been to Naxos, Paros and Sifnos myself and always had a great time over there with my girlfriend.

It is not that hard to have cheap vacation in Greece.
Take the time to read about the Greek islands and pick the ones you like.
There are many discounters on air flights these days. Use them. A ticket to Greece can be cheap if you travel on a last minute ticket or book a long time in advance.

Allright... There you are - you just landed in greece on Athens Airport.
Your next stop will be either a hotel or youth hostel for the night or the harbour.
The moment you get out of the airport the cab drivers will try to get you in their taxi. They always ove charge you - they did it to me as well the first time my girlfriend and I went for a cheap vacation to Greece.

Instead.. Just outside the airport you can take the bus to the centre of Athens for a fraction of the money you would spend on a taxi.
Can I suggest you where to go? I would not go straight to the ferries - enjoy a day and night in Athens!
Buy a bus ticket to Ammonia Square - it is right in the centre of Athens. There are many cheap youth hostels and cheap hotels in Athens where you can spend the night.
If you have arrived early you can visit the Acropolis - one of the famous Greek tourist attractions.

Enjoy some good Greek food in the evening. It is easy to spot where you can get a good and cheap traditional Greek meal.
Just go where the Greek people are having dinner. They know where they will get the best meals for little money.
Have a nice glas of retsina. That is the most famous Greek wine. After your dinner you can try a Greek coffee or a glass of ouzo.

You have to get up early next morning to take the subway to Piraeus. That is the port where the ferries are.
Do not take a taxi if you want to keep your vacation cheap. The subway is almost free!
Most ferries leave around 8.00 in the morning to bring you to your holiday destination.

You have to buy a ticket at the ticket office in Piraeus. You like to travel cheap so you buy the cheapest ticket - ask for deck class.
Depending on what Greek island you have chosen for your vacation the ferry trip will take about 6 to 8 hours.

The food and beverages on the ferry are not cheap so if you want to save some money buy your own before you check in.
You will travel a long time in the sun so you will need some bottles of water at least.

When you arrive at your cheap holiday destination avoid the guys that try to sell you a room when you leave the ferry.
They are payed to fill up the rooms in the hotels that are on the less popular hotels away from the beaches.

Most islands have a tourist office in the port with plenty information.
